DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO

AGAPE first arrived in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2004, with the goal of building five drinking water wells and a vocational school in Kindele, a district of the capital, Kinshasa. During this time, the volunteers became acquainted with the Kimbondo Pediatric Foundation, also known as Mama Koko’s Hospital. The foundation serves as both a hospital and a center for orphaned or abandoned children.

Over the years, we have contributed to the development of the facility, with the aim of improving the quality of life for its residents and providing increasingly comprehensive healthcare services to the impoverished population.

Our efforts have led to the construction of hospital pavilions, shelters, logistical buildings, and other infrastructure. Additionally, we have worked to initiate agricultural activities for self-sufficiency in the Kinta and Matchiuko areas. Alongside these physical projects, we have also carried out training activities in healthcare, management, administration, and maintenance, with the support of our volunteers and partners.

In 2012, AGAPE became the promoter and one of the founders of HUB FOR KIMBONDO, a network of associations that decided to cooperate and work together to enhance the efficiency of their efforts. The goal was to ensure the sustainability of Pediatric care and work for the benefit of children. After a decade of dedication, in December 2022, the sustainability objective was achieved thanks to the healthcare facilities built, which generate income, and the awareness-raising actions carried out in the Mont Ngafula area.

For this reason, AGAPE decided to step down from leading the group and grant the Congolese the appropriate autonomy, while never ceasing to monitor the well-being of the children, especially the most vulnerable ones.

Since 2023, with the recognition of the association in the region and the establishment of AGAPE R.D. Congo, we continue to work on local issues such as disability, healthcare support, youth training and professionalization, and women’s empowerment. However, we now approach these themes on a broader scale, collaborating with new partners from both public and private sectors.
