Health Training

Since 2014, AGAPE has coordinated a healthcare team consisting of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and healthcare professionals who periodically go on short missions to the D.R. Congo. During these missions, they work with local staff to pass on their skills and expertise.

How the project was born

For many years, the group has been involved in the training of healthcare staff at the Fondation Pediatrique de Kimbondo, our former partner in Kinshasa, D.R. Congo. Over time, other Congolese organizations have asked for our support to organize conferences and training days, both in person and online.

THE CONTEXT

The Democratic Republic of Congo has schools and universities offering healthcare courses, but despite this, some specializations are still lacking. Over the years, an increasing number of Congolese professionals have been asking AGAPE and its network to deepen their knowledge in certain areas, so they can better diagnose and treat diseases for which treatment protocols still need to be refined.

The evolution of the project

For over 10 years, AGAPE has been involved in training Congolese healthcare staff at the Kimbondo Hospital.

Thanks to the Corpus Sana association, whose mission focuses on training and raising awareness on health and hygiene issues both for the population and healthcare staff, we have expanded our efforts. With their coordination on the ground and assessment of local needs, we have extended our intervention in the Kinshasa area.

In the future, it will be crucial to involve an increasing number of professionals in order to broaden the training offerings and enhance the effectiveness of this project.

Activities

The activities are developed in response to requests from universities, hospitals, health centers, and dispensaries. The first training events focused on ozone therapy for the treatment of Buruli ulcers, a skin ulcer commonly found in cases of poor hygiene and poverty, causing severe suffering, as well as the treatment of neurovascular diseases and the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.

Impact

Improving the specific training of Congolese healthcare professionals to enhance the care processes, particularly for patients with specific diseases.
