Textile center

How the project was born

The textile hub project developed thanks to the initiative and vision of Paolo Parodi and Maria Rita Pani, who, through careful observation of local needs, were able to understand the community’s requirements and enhance the area’s resources. The goal is to create an initiative that not only fosters the region’s economic self-sufficiency but also provides opportunities for professional and social growth for young people, with a special focus on young women.

THE CONTEXT

Burkina Faso is one of Africa’s largest cotton producers, but in recent years, the sector has suffered a sharp decline due to economic instability and climate change, making it increasingly difficult for small farmers to earn a significant profit from cotton cultivation. Without processing infrastructure, the community is forced to sell raw cotton at low prices, missing out on the full benefits of its transformation.

The textile hub is designed to give the community the opportunity to process cotton locally, turning it into fabrics ready for sale. This way, the village can retain a greater share of the product’s final value while also creating new growth opportunities for local youth, who will have the chance to learn a trade and build a stable economic foundation.
